The Australian Tapestry Workshop (ATW) is regarded as an international centre of excellence for innovative, contemporary, hand-woven tapestries, created in collaboration with leading artists, architects & designers. Established in 1976, it is the only workshop of its kind in Australia and one of a few in the world dedicated to the production of hand-woven tapestries.
Our vision is to inspire creativity and push the boundaries of contemporary tapestry weaving through new collaborations. The ATW's Board of Directors and staff are committed to achieving the four strategic goals that underpin our vision:
Reputation: International recognition as a centre of excellence for contemporary tapestry weaving, public programs and creative exchange.
Artistic Development: Collaborate with leading living artists to create dynamic tapestries of artistic excellence that continue to progress and develop the medium’s possibilities. Creation and Education: Make the creation of contemporary tapestries accessible to artists and the community through innovative exhibitions, workshops, education and inclusive residency programs. Sustainability: Run a professional, efficient and effective arts organisation with the widest possible support base.
