From cradle to grave, textiles surround us. As carriers of culture textiles deeply engage our senses and memories across borders and decades, creating literal and metaphoric links between the personal and political and reaching into all spheres of human existence from local neighbourhoods to globalised economises.
Increasingly contemporary artists are turning to textiles as both medium and message, demonstrating anew its expressive power as a site for resistance, storytelling, and innovation.
Curated by Beck Jobson and Ramona Barry the exhibition brings together former ATW Artists in Residence featured in their new book Textiles x Art (Thames & Hudson AU). It presents a diversity of practice from artists exploring the medium in unique and compelling ways.
