Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to explore our beautiful National Trust and heritage-listed building in South Melbourne.

Open House Melbourne visitors will have the opportunity to fully explore the ATW, including the tapestry studio floor, gallery spaces and mezzanine with a view to our Colour Laboratory. Since its establishment in 1976, the ATW has built a worldwide reputation for the creation of contemporary tapestries in collaboration with living artists and architects. During this time the ATW has woven over 500 tapestries, which hang in significant public and private collections both nationally and internationally.

Designed by T. J Crouch and built in 1885 the ATW’s home is a distinctive example of Victorian Free Gothic architecture style. Featuring a ornamented facade of white Oamaru (NZ) limestone surmounted by an elaborate parapet and squat central tower. The ATW tapestry studio is spanned by light wrought iron trusses on exotic cast-iron columns, naturally lit by sawtooth skylights.
