The Artist in Residence program at the Australian Tapestry Workshop is a platform for creative exploration, collaboration and growth. Welcoming artists from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and cultures—locally, regionally and internationally—the program reflects ATW’s commitment to fostering a dynamic, inclusive space for contemporary textile practice.
Resident artists immerse themselves in the rich environment of the Workshop, engaging with the intricate techniques associated with tapestry weaving, exploring the science of the dye lab, or venturing into new textile-based ideas. This experience allows residents to deepen their engagement with materials, techniques and critical ideas to influence new possibilities in their creative processes.
This exhibition presents new works produced by the 2024 Artists in Residence in response to their time spent at the ATW. It speaks to a growing cohort of bold and engaged contemporary artists, offering a glimpse into the diverse practices and creative possibilities that emerge when artists are given space to connect, experiment and grow.
