International Weaver Exchange


We are please to announce an international exchange programme between Dovecot Studios and the Australian Tapestry Workshop. This exchange is designed to raise the profile of contemporary tapestry weaving by fostering talent, building relationships and sharing knowledge. By spending an extended period in the host country, weavers will engage with both familiar and new working practices, and immerse themselves in the local Arts and cultural community.

Director of the Tate Modern, Chris Dercon, visits the Australian Tapestry Workshop


On Thursday 18 June we were excited to receive a visit at the Workshop from Chris Dercon, Director of the Tate Modern. Chris looked at the finished tapestries on display in the galleries with ATW Director Antonia Syme. He also was interested in the production of the tapestries, talking with the ATW weavers about our current major project, a collaboration with Juan Davila on a commissioned tapestry for the State Library of Victoria.

Baillieu Myer AC is new Patron of ATW


The Australian Tapestry Workshop is honoured to announce that Baillieu Myer AC has accepted the role of Patron. Mr Myer played a critical role in the founding of the Workshop, and has remained an important supporter and advocate. He will continue the legacy of our late Patron Dame Elisabeth Murdoch AC DBE.

INTERTWINED: Weaving training for refugee artists


Intertwined: Stories on the Wall - short film now available The public is invited to view a short film, highlighting a recent collaboration between Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) and the ATW. This project brought together two groups of women artists from refugee communities to learn the art of tapestry weaving. The program was supported by the City of Port Phillip.
