Australian Tapestry Workshop announces new Board Chair

The Australian Tapestry Workshop (ATW) has announced the appointment of John Ridley as Board Chair following the retirement of Peter Williams. Peter was appointed to the ATW Board in 2002 and served as Chair from 2009.

John Ridley takes on the role of Chair as the ATW prepares to celebrate 40 years of operation and an exciting future as an international centre of excellence in the art of contemporary tapestry. “I am very honoured to be coming back at a very propitious time when we have strong demand for our work and growing international recognition. I am keen to build on Peter’s legacy, which includes the Tapestry Design Prize for Architects initiative”, said John Ridley.

Reflecting upon his long association with the ATW, Peter Williams said, “The ATW is a wonderful creative place where commitment, passion and unlimited skills combine in order to facilitate and weave great contemporary tapestry recognized nationally and around the world. It was my privilege to chair the ATW Board for 7 years, work closely with the Director and all it’s talented people. An involvement I will cherish

John Ridley was previously on the board of the ATW for six years until 2014. He is a communications strategy consultant and is recognized as an industry leader in community engagement and stakeholder relations.

John currently sits on the board of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and was Chair of the Melbourne Forum since its inception.

Also appointed to the Board is Mrs Lynn Rainbow Reid who is well known for her strong involvement in television and performance arts, social causes, and her experience in fundraising. Lynn is Founding Trustee of the Queensland Museum Foundation, former member of the Vice Chancellor’s Advisory Board for the Cultural Precinct at Queensland University, and has created and chairs the Rainbow Reid Endowment for an Artist in Residence at QUT Acting.

John and Lynn join existing members of the Board with a strong interest and commitment to supporting the arts in Australia. They include Robyn Baillieu, Peter Bancroft OAM, Richard Hilton, Professor Kay Lawrence AM, Bob Nation AM, Lisa Newcombe, and Rachel Peck.
