Tapestry Weaving Classes
INTRODUCTION TO TAPESTRY WEAVING - February 2014
Join master weaver Joy Smith in the stimulating environment of the Workshop for an intensive week developing the basic skills required to produce simple tapestries on a small scale.
Participants will learn how to warp a loom, weave simple shapes and lines and explore colour, pattern and texture. Evening lectures will be presented by ATW weaver Chris Cochius and artist weaver Tim Gresham.
This class is for people with no experience in tapestry and for those who wish to refresh basic skills.
Monday 3 February - Friday 7 February 2014, 10am-4pm*
plus optional evening lectures (*includes 1 hr lunch break)
Venue: Australian Tapestry Workshop, 262-266 Park Street, South Melbourne
Tuition and materials: $660, includes wooden frame loom, clamp and bobbin which participants can take home.
Joy Smith is an Australian Tapestry Artist who lives and works out of Melbourne. Joy has been an active artist and weaver since the 1980's, producing over 200 personal tapestries or commissions. In addition, Joy has successfully held several exhibitions around Australia and internationally. Joy's work is in public collections in France and Australia as well as private collections in Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Malaysia, United Kingdom and USA. In 2011 she won the Kate Derum Award for Small Tapestries.
