Arts Space Wodonga presents: Contemporary woven tapestries from the Australian Tapestry Workshop

09-11-2011

Arts Space Wodonga, in association with the Australian Tapestry Workshop, is delighted to present an exhibition of contemporary woven tapestries in December and January.

This vibrant and inventive show features 15 works produced by the Australian Tapestry Workshop's skilled weavers, working in collaboration with notable Australian artists including Arlene Textaqueen, David Larwill, Christine Johnson, Merrin Eirth and Ross Moore.

These tapestries were part of the Workshop's ‘From here to eternity' exhibition, which recently toured Australia, and was also exhibited in Prato, Italy and the Australian Embassies in Washington and Paris.

The Australian Tapestry Workshop is one of only a small number of similar workshops in the world and has produced over 400 works during its 35-year history.

Curator, Helen Carter says: "This exciting exhibition demonstrates the dynamic interaction of some of Australia's best artists with the weavers of the Workshop."

"I have long admired the work of the Australian Tapestry Workshop and this exhibition presents a colourful cross-section of small and large tapestries from senior Australian artists such as Alun Leach Jones, younger artists such as Arlene Textaqueen and International artists Alan Davie and Gordon Crook," she says.

Located in the heart of Wodonga's Business District, Arts Space Wodonga is a vibrant and accessible contemporary arts venue that features a program of unique exhibitions, intimate performances, workshops, recitals and forums.

Contemporary Woven Tapestries from the Australian Tapestry Workshop will be on exhibition from 9 December 2011 to 7 January 2012. Entry is free.
