The Australian Tapestry Workshop's recently completed work by acclaimed Australian artist, David Noonan, is currently on show in the UK as a part of the acclaimed British Art Show 7: In the Days of the Comet, curated by the Hayward Gallery in London.

Measuring 2.3 x 2.93m, Noonan's Untitled is touring with the exhibition for 15 months across different cities in the UK.

Director of the Australian Tapestry Workshop, Antonia Syme is delighted that Noonan has selected this work to be his signature piece in this prestigious exhibition, which takes place every five years.

"To have one of our works exhibited in such an influential contemporary art show in the Umited Kingdom, together with David, is a wonderful opportunity for the Workshop as it showcases the extraordinary skills of our weavers and highlights the breadth of possibilities in contemporary tapestry," she said.

In transforming the work's very complex imagery, the Australian Tapestry Workshop's weavers - Cheryl Thornton, Sue Batten and Amy Cornall - have cleverly retained the most important details needed to keep the sense of uncertain narrative generated by the work as well as capture the textures and mood.

"The weavers wanted the tapestry to retain the mystery and enigmatic nature of the artwork and have been careful not to over interpret David's forms. The result is a stunning and completely engaging tapestry that both David and the Workshop are incredibly proud of," said Syme.

Untitled was also recently selected by Noonan as his only work to be displayed at the 2010 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, which was held at the Art Gallery of South Australia from March to May 2010.

An exhibition of David's work was recently held at Roslyn Oxley9. Click here for details.
